Mono Dusk, Released July 2010. Mono Lake sits just east of the Sierra Nevadas and Tioga Pass near Yosemite National Park. When the city of Los Angeles began tapping the lake for drinking water, these Tufa towers that were once hidden beneath the water appeared. Natural calcium carbonate deposits formed the towers, which appeared when the lake levels lowered enough. A recent agreement means LA won't take the lake any lower, and the Tufas might eventually go back underwater. But don't start holding your breath just yet.
