Sunflower, Back | Released June, 2011 | Photographed in a field of wild sunflowers at James A. Reed conservation area, Lee's Summit, Missouri | I am fortunate to live with a relatively large wildlife conservation area practically in my back yard. I frequently hike with my black lab off the trails and through the fields where few others go. One very foggy early fall morning just after sunrise we hiked through a field of wild sunflowers when Bear (my dog) agreed to sit still long enough for me to snap the backside of this well-formed flower. To show how fragile these perfections are, however: the next time we hiked this area about a week later, the sunflowers had wilted and even fallen after several hard freezes.
